About Cargèse

  • Cargèse is a medium-sized village along the western coast of Corsica, between Ajaccio and Porto. It is directly on the sea, however very close to the mountains, covering most of Corsica.
  • Climate: The day temperature at the time of the school is between 10-20°C. Please bring suitable clothes.
  • Tourist board in Cargèse (French).
  • Wikipedia for Cargèse.

Travel information

  • The airport closest to the conference site is Ajaccio Napoléon Bonaparte airport, 30 km south of Cargèse. At the time of the School you may fly with direct flights with Air France (Paris Orly, Lyon, Nice, Marseille), EasyJet (Paris CDG), Air Corsica (Paris Orly, Lyon, Marseille, Nice). While Paris and Lyon may be suitable hubs for those connecting with other flights, notice that Paris Orly and Paris CDG airports are far from each other. Thus, Lyon and Paris CDG are probably the only two convenient hubs.
  • Boat: you may also decide to take the boat from Marseille (company SNCM or Toulon (company Corsica Ferries), overnight.
  • Participants will be picked-up at the airport on Monday afternoon, October 31st around 3 pm. Transportation back to Ajaccio will be organized on Saturday morning, November 12th around 9 am. Details will be provided during the school.
  • Although we will take care of your transfer, you may notice that the transfer may be done with public transportation from the Bus station of Ajaccio (same place as the harbour), with two buses per day with company SASAIB. See the timetable.
  • Welcoming: All participants reaching Cargèse with the shuttle buses of the School will be welcomed by the IESC staff. You will be taken directly to your location of accommodation, school site or Cargèse village. The opening session is scheduled at 8.30 am on Tuesday November 1st.

Conference site

The school site is 1km east of the center of the village (near the sea shore), and may be reach walking alongside the road and then on a small path. See map. Bring suitable walking shoes. In case you need to walk on this way at night time, we strongly recommend you to bring a light with you.

Internet connexion is available at the school site (WiFi, plus a few computers).

Accommodation

Accommodation will be split between the school site (near the sea shore) and the village. The habit is that the speakers are in hotels, that the organizers are in the villa at the school site, and that the students are split between rooms at the school site and appartements in the village.

Lodging is provided on the basis of two persons per room. You should bring with you toiletries (soap etc.). Linen/blankets and towels are provided.

Laundry (automatic washing machines) are available in the accommodation building at the school site, as well as in the village. The washing agent is provided.

Kitchen facilities are available, as an alternative to bars and restaurants. Shops are available in the village.

Posters

We encourage participants to bring posters to present their work. Posters will be hanged during two poster sessions (usually on Thursday). The preferred size of the posters is A0 portrait. Oral sessions (Poster Flash) have been scheduled for quick presentations of the participants as an introduction to their poster (two slides max, 2.5 minutes in total). Please have such slides prepared in PDF format.
